House - Seminyak Bali

2002-2004
Built on some of the last remaining rice fields in the highly fashionable Seminyak area, this commission was to capture the party lifestyle of the client, without loosing the sense of Bali.  The layout of the house was based on the traditional tripartite hierarchy of Bali villages, placing the room types in orientation to entrances and the sacred Mountain Agung.  Also true to the local building types, the rooms werea mixture of open and closed spaces, turning open spaces into further rooms with walls.  The palette comprised of local materials like volcanic pebbles, grass roofs, bamboo weave mats, a local green sandstone, and Bingkerai, a common local timber.
